Microsoft has been forced to update its YouTube app for Windows Phone after Google issued a takedown request claiming that it allowed users to download videos and bypass content restrictions and didn’t display YouTube ads.

Google duly ordered that the app be removed and disabled by 22 May and In response Microsoft has issued a hasty patch which addresses some of these concerns, though not all.

In a statement a Microsoft spokesperson said: “Microsoft updated the Windows Phone YouTube app to address the restricted video and offline video access concerns voiced by Google last week. We have been in contact with Google and continue to believe that our two companies can work together to hone an app that benefits our mutual customers, partners and content providers.”

In other words Microsoft hasn’t addressed Google’s complaint about displaying ads, a feature it previously claimed was impossible as Google blocks it from accessing APIs needed to do so.
