Facebook Home, the social network's custom designed Android launcher, has racked up its 500,000th download on Google’s Play store just 10 days after its US launch on 12 April.

Although the figures seem healthy there is no comparable figure for the number of active users with some likely to have deleted the app after installing it.

This is surmised from the poor reviews that app has garnered since its release with over 50 per cent of downloaders opting to give it just one star, bringing its average rating down to a measly 2.2 stars from 11,170 reviewers.

One downloader, Nathan Watrous, said: “I tried it and to be honest, it just was too much. I would like it better if it was just the lock screen, but it gets annoying. Plus, it hid most of my other apps.”

Meanwhile Facebook has expanded the range of compatible devices; adding HTC One to its stable to join HTC One X, One X+, Samsung Galaxy SIII and Note II.
