Big Communications PR director Tim Gearey is set to move to Midlands agency Cogent Elliott.

The Drum has learned that Gearey is to move to Midlands rival Cogent in March and in doing so will join up with former Big Communications CEO Mike Philipson in order to build its PR offer as part of a five-year-strategy.

The pair worked together until Philipson’s departure last Summer to move to Cogent to become CEO.

At the time of writing neither Cogent nor Big had offered any comment on the appointment.

Gearey joined Big Communications a year ago, having previously served as managing director of Golley Slater Birmingham. He had previously spent 12 years at McCann Erickson Birmingham where he was ultimately deputy PR managing director.

A successor for Gearey at Big is currently in the process of being recruited it is understood.
