Leveson report to be published today at 13:30
Lord Justice Leveson will publish his long awaited report into the future of the British press this afternoon, after delivering a short statement to the media at 13:30.
It culminates an eight month inquiry instigated in the wake of the phone hacking scandal and is expected to conclude in wide reaching reform to the industry, prompting a pre-emptive war of words in newspaper editorials.
Within its voluminous 800 pages are expected to lie criticism of the press, politicians and the police in addition to calls for some form of state regulation of the media.
Coalition leaders are currently locked in discussion as to how to respond to the document, having been privy to it from yesterday afternoon, with reports that Lib Dem ministers are at odds with their Tory colleagues over the implementation of any reform.
Conservatives predominantly support a beefed up Press Complaints Commission whilst the Lib Dems have said they remain open to some form of statutory regulation.
The Prime Minister is set to make a statement to the House of Commons on the matter at 15:00.
