Rufus Spiller, creative director of Line, has announced that he is to leave the Edinburgh-based digital agency, in order to join the Melbourne office of Precedent.

Spiller, who was a shareholder and director of Line, had been with the agency for four years and in that period consolidated its position as a business that specialises in finance, retail and tourism, as well as ticketing where the business had developed a number of proprietary solutions for the likes of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

He has also held roles within LongLunch, Design Alliance Scotland and has mentored at Edinburgh College of Art and Telford College.

According to Line’s managing director Ross Laurie, Spiller also set up processes which allowed the business to develop other new platforms. For example, it has just secured six-figure first round funding for a new concept called Deal To Me Now, which will act as a more altruistic version of GroupOn.

Said Laurie, “Rufus did a great job for us, but in many way this gives us an opportunity to bring on board another big hitter who can inject some new energy. We’re in no hurry to recruit however, to make sure we get the right person.”

Said Spiller, “I had a great time at Line but it is time to move on. I am really looking forward to Melbourne and working with Precedent.

“It was a tough decision to leave the Line management team and in particular my close personal friend Ross Laurie. Developing the Line creative team with some truly inspiring individuals over the last four-and-a-bit years has been a great experience. I wish Line every success in the future, it has been great fun, hard work and a constant learning experience,” he added.

Spiller will leave the agency at the end of this week.
