Sebastian Hamilton announced as editor-in-chief of the Irish Mail titles

Sebastian Hamilton has been promoted from his editorship of the Irish Mail on Sunday to the editor-in-chief of the Mail titles in Ireland.

Hamilton has succeeded Eric Bailey, who will step down in January, to take the role and has been replaced at the Irish Mail on Sunday by Conor O’Donnell who was editing the Irish Daily Mail.

He will report to Paul Dacre, editor-in-chief of Associated Newspapers.

Hamilton joined the Irish operations of Associated Newspapers in 2006, six months after it was launched. He has previously been the news editor of the Mail on Sunday in London and had held roles in the in Sunday Telegraph, Scotland on Sunday and the Sunday Times.

Bailey will remain as consultant editor to the newspapers and as a non-executive director on the board of Associated Newspapers Ireland.

He said in a statement released by Associated Newspapers Ireland: "I could not have wished for a better way to end my full-time career.

"I am delighted that I will still be involved in the success of our newspapers, and that we have been able to make promotions from inside the company."
