The Random House Group has launched an ‘emotigraph’ digital campaign, charting the mood and thoughts of the digital world, in order to promote the new novel by Sebastian Faulks, A Possible Life.

Having launched today, the emotigraph will capture and display pictures, text and posts, updating constantly to illustrate the current mood of the digital world based on ‘hashtags’ used by Twitter and Instagram users.

The graphic will capture and display any public tweet or Instagram photo featuring the hashtags #fear, #happy, #hope, #longing and #love - reflecting the novel’s five interwoven stories and themes.

Sebastian Faulks said: “The magic of fiction is the chance it gives us to inhabit the living experience of others, allowing us to appreciate and understand our own lives. This is what this project sets out to do by giving online users around the world the opportunity see how they’re connected and bound together through common experiences in their everyday lives.”
