BBC One and BBC Two will stop featuring blocks of children’s programming after Christmas, it has been revealed, following completion of the digital switchover next month.

Instead, output will solely be on CBBC and CBeebies, with BBC One to instead feature new daytime programmes and BBC Two to air live sports and repeats of factual shows from the archive.

Joe Godwin, BBC Children's director, said at a Broadcast magazine session in Salford: "We're not making children change their habits, we're following where they've gone already…very few children are looking primarily to slots on BBC One and BBC Two for their favourite children's programmes."

However, he did say that ‘the very best’ of programming may get featured on BBC One or Two.
