The Daily Sketch: BBC budget controller or Irish Daily Star editor - who'll jump first?

By Colin W Thompson

September 17, 2012 | 1 min read

Today’s Daily Sketch is inspired by two news stories with the BBC director general Mark Thomson stating the budget cutbacks are ‘close to the edge’ while the editor of the newspaper facing potential closure of the Irish Daily Star is also included.

The Irish Daily Star looks to have gone too far with its decision to print the topless pictures of a holidaying Duchess of Cambridge, with owner Richard Desmond responding by saying that he will drop its funding.

Meanwhile, the BBC budget cuts have been ongoing for the last two years as a result of the Government’s cost reduction strategy, including a long-term freeze on the license fee.
