Rock band the Darkness has unveiled an official app to dovetail with the release of their third studio album, ‘Hot Cakes’.

Incorporating augmented reality technology the app allows fans to unlock exclusive video content by holding their smartphone or tablet over the album cover.

Users of both the Darkness and Aurasma Life apps (the firm behind the augmented reality tech) will be able to add a virtual representation of lead singer Justin Hawkins to their cameras view of the world and stand alongside him.

Hawkins said: “The Darkness app contains Aurasma’s rather interesting image recognition technology which is great for fans as it is really going to make all of their Darkness memorabilia come to life.”
