The BBC has apologised for predicting sunshine this weekend, ignoring the Met Office technology and warning people of thundery showers.

The Telegraph reports that BBC weatherman Phillip Avery apologised for the false predictions on Sunday afternoon, saying; “There are thunderstorms there which were not represented in our forecasts over the past couple of days or so.”

Avery admitted that the computers using Met Office models had forecast the showers, but that the due to a lack of evidence, the BBC had predicted dry, hot weather.

“Having said that, apologies to anyone who has had their next few hours ruined,” he added.

A BBC spokesman, to The Telegraph: "The weather team always endeavour to be open about forecasting and it was right to explain why today's forecast didn't capture weather events in some regions. This was done following discussions with Met Office colleagues."
