Google has reportedly splashed out an estimated £160m on the acquisition of social media management firm Wildfire Interactive, in a bid to bolster its social media credentials.

The start-up is just four years old but has already racked up a wealth of expertise in managing content, ads and promotions on Google+, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and LinkedIn.

Bringing the entire Wildfire team into the Google fold (which ironically includes Zuckerberg’s sister, Arielle Zuckerberg) the search giant is hoping to improve its digital media marketing and ultimately offer better content and more meaningful interactions.

Writing on Google’s blog, product management director Jason Miller said: “People today can make their voices heard in ways that were previously impossible," Miller said. "Wildfire helps businesses uphold their end of the conversation (or spark a new one).

“It's a platform for brands to manage their pages, apps, tweets, videos, sponsorships, ads, promotions and more, all in one place."
