A mystery Jack Russell Terrier which appeared on a Dublin bound train has been identified and reunited with his owner following a ‘Lost Dog!’ tweet issued by Irish Rail.

Boarding an early morning commuter train in rural Kilcock the four legged passenger didn’t seem to have any business in the capital prompting a conductor to attempt to solve the mystery.

The mug shot was swiftly re-tweeted 500 times in just 32 minutes before coming to the attention of its owner Deirdrie Anglin, who posted a reply exclaiming: ‘That’s my dog!’

Staff initially gave the mystery dog the name of Checker, joking that he may have been trained to sniff out tickets, but upon arrival in Dublin it became clear that his owner hadn’t come along for the ride.
