Google is hoping to dent Apple’s seemingly unassailable dominance of the tablet market by launching its own interpretation of the gadget where so many others have tried and failed before.

Details of the putative device are still sketchy but rumours suggest it will sport a comparatively diminutive 7in screen together with an equivalently modest price, with some suggesting it could retail for the sub $200 mark.

This would put the gadget head to head with Amazon’s Kindle Fire although it is thought that Google are keen to utilise their muscle to push for a technological jump as well

Google will detail the device at its annual developer conference in California today, an event where it will also show off the latest iteration of its Android operating system – Jelly Bean.
