Yahoo has announced that it has signed a deal with Spotify which will see the internet firm integrate and promote Spotify’s services on the Yahoo Media Network.

Both sides view the partnership as a means to boost traffic and revenues although the move will badly hit Rhapody, yahoo’s existing music streaming partner.

The wide ranging agreement will see Spotify roll out on Yahoo Music before being integrated to Yahoo Movies and omg! via a new app which is scheduled for release later this year.

Spotify will also introduce its play button to Yahoo pages, allowing browsers to stream music whilst remaining on the site, although they must first download the Spotify software.

If the music streaming service picks up paid subscribers via Yahoo in this way it will pay a commission although ad revenue will not be divvied up.
