News Corp considering splitting publishing and entertainment assets into two companies
News Corp is considering splitting itself in two, separating its publishing division from its entertainment division, it has been revealed.
It has been suggested that this would make 20th Century Fox film studio, Fox broadcast network and Fox News channel one company; while publishing assets such as The Wall Street Journal, News International, the New York Post and HarperCollins would be a separate company.
According to the Wall Street Journal, outside investors would be happy with the split as it would allow them to invest in the film and TV assets rather than the company’s slower publishing business.
The Murdoch family, which has 40% of the voting shares, would retain control of both following a split.
