The Co-operative has told The Drum that it has yet to formally appoint Leo Burnett to its £50m advertising account, although the agency is certainly its 'preferred' choice.

Following a report in Campaign on Friday, which said that Leo Burnett had been appointed after a pitch against Now and CHI & Partners, the client has stated that no deal is yet in place.

A spokesperson for The Co-operative, said:"The Co-operative has named Leo Burnett as its preferred agency following its recent pitch for the role of lead advertising and marketing agency. Commercial negotiations have no been entered into but a formal appointment has yet to be made."

The review began in January, which didn't include incumbent agency TBWA/Manchester, which has held the account for around two years.
