The X Factor’s first episode of this year’s final at Wembley Arena has been labelled ‘a flop’ after it garnered 3.5 million less viewers that last year.

The Daily Mirror claims that the Saturday night episode of the final, which eventually saw Little Mix named as the winners on the following Sunday programme, was beaten in the ratings by BBC rival Strictly Come Dancing’s semi-final.

Saturday night viewing figures of The X Factor scored an average of 10.6 million viewers, and peaked at 11.8 million, compare to Strictly Come Dancing’s peak of 12.3 million and its average of 11 million viewers.

The paper claims that insiders have revealed that Simon Cowell plans a shake up for next year’s series.
