Orange and Barclaycard have announced the upcoming launch of the second Quick Tap contactless payments enabled handset: the Samsung Wave 578.

The phone, which will be available in the coming weeks, runs on Samsung’s own operating system Bada, and users will be able to make payments of £15 or under using the handsets NFC capability at over 50,000 stores nationwide.

Stores which allow the Quick Tap function include Prêt a Manger, EAT, Little Chef, Wembley Arena, Subway, Wilkinson and McDonalds.

Simeon Bird, director of propositions at Orange, said: “We’re pleased to be offering the Samsung Wave 578, which is the next in a range of Quick Tap enabled mobiles we have planned for the UK.

Only on Orange will customers benefit from the greater convenience and control over their high street purchases which Quick Tap provides them with."

David Chan, CEO of Barclaycard Consumer Europe, said: “Paying with a mobile phone means never being without the right change, and always having access to funds. That’s why I believe contactless mobile is the future of payments, and I’m keen it’s made available to as many of our customers as possible.

“At the launch of our first contactless handset earlier this year we promised we would roll out greater choice in the ‘Quick Tap’ range and I’m pleased to be able to announce the first of these new handsets today.”
