Research by marketing recruiter EMR has found that business development managers’ salaries have risen 5.5% to £58,000 in 2011.

This makes the salaries, at management level, 16% higher than other marketing professionals.

The research showed that the demand for business development managers was so high that one in two of those resigning receiving counter-offers to stay in their current roles. It was also found that since the beginning of the year, more than two out of every three BDMs being offered a new position have had to choose between multiple roles.

Charles Green, managing consultant of EMR said: “2011 has seen a growing demand for a finite number of experienced BDMs, which has driven up salaries.

“Right now, the demand for BDMs is particularly notable among professional services firms – and that’s great news for UK jobs. It demonstrates professional services firm are approaching the future with ambitions plans for growth. Hiring BDMs is an indicator of confidence among employers and the expectation of short-term client acquisition and growth.”
