It may not even have been released yet but Google have begun to stimulate interest in the Google Wallet app with the airing of a new YouTube advert based on a classic episode of Seinfeld.

Starring the hapless George Constanza and his oversized wallet it depicts the wallet fan attempt to cram one last scrap of paper into his stuffed pockets – only to see his wallet explode in a fury of notes, receipts and scraps.

Describing their new system Google said: “Google Wallet is an Android app that makes your phone your wallet. It stores virtual versions of your existing plastic cards on your phone. Simply tap your phone to pay and redeem offers using near field communication, or NFC.”

Google has yet to give an official launch date for the new service other than to say it is “coming soon”.
