Copyright protection for musicians is set to be extended in Europe next week, which will help offset a decline in music revenue being experienced by artists and studios.

The campaign has been backed by some of the UK’s most well respected musicians, including Sir Paul McCartney and Cliff Richard to extend the copyright of their music within Europe, the protection of which currently expires after 50 years.

According to Reuters, most companies are likely to agree extending the copyright protection to 70 years, with a vote due in Brussels today (Monday 12 September.)
