The latest social media site with a twist to hit the internet is hoping to score with a proposition to exclusively target football fans.

Bantr allows fans of the beautiful game to log in and rate their clubs, earn points from predicting match results and (as the name suggests) blether about everything footie related.

Brainchild of football fan Peter McCormack the site has already signed up 5,000 members and is receiving interest from Spain and Italy.

Attempting to impart some sporting competition into the virtual world McCormack has dabbled in ‘gamification’, awarding points for such activities as checking in from a match, inviting friends, or correctly predicting match results.

The fan who accumulates the most points every month is appointed club ‘chairman’.

With usage naturally peaking during fixtures the site acquires a Twitter like churn of comment for 90 minute spells before falling back to the more plodding pace of sites such as Facebook for the remainder.
