Proposal suggested by Ofcom could see TV viewers in the south of Scotland begin to receive STV for the first time.

The plan is part of a proposal to tidy up the regulation of commercial channels in the UK, with current broadcast licenses to end in 2014, reports the BBC, and could see the south of Scotland place into STV’s broadcasting area.

Previously the south of Scotland received broadcasting through the ITV network from Border Television.

Ofcom has also begun to review the renewal of licences for ITV and Channel 5, with Ofcom being asked to outline possible options to ensure they maintain their public service commitments, something Ofcom said it would be unable to achieve.
