Regional newspapers see online growth of over 25% in daily visits

The websites of regional newspapers have grown by over 25% in daily traffic, according the latest figures from the Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC).

The latest figures show an overall growth of 25.2% in unique browers on last year, with Trinity Mirror seeing the largest jump, growing by 54.7% in monthly traffic.

The largest monthly figure for traffic was recorded by The Scotsman, with 1,974,290 between the first half of 2011, followed by The Manchester Evening News at 1,374,641.

Jan Pitt, group executive director of client services, ABC said, “The Regional Newspaper groups continue to see healthy year-on-year and period-on-period increases for their online activity. The year-on-year audited figures show that Regional Newspaper online networks grew their Daily Average Unique Browsers by 25.2%. This is a great showcase for their importance as a source of local news and information in their communities.”
