Nielsen is expected to roll out an online advertising rating tool across America using Facebook data and TV style reporting on 15 August.

The Nielsen Online Ratings Campaign, the Financial Times reports, will give advertisers daily reports of campaigns running on Facebook and the rest of the internet using the same gross ratings points data they use to track TV adverts.

Facebook currently provides the information exclusively to Nielsen, which plans to add other data providers. However, Nielsen’s competitor for online scoring, Comscore, is being reported as launching its own platform for measuring exposure of brands on Facebook.

Steve Hasker, Nielsen’s president of media products and advertiser solutions, told the Financial Times: “I think we’ll see something of a flight to quality.

“Sites with more targeted content, like NYTimes.com, FT.com, TV programmes’ websites, Facebook and others will do very well.”

Nielson is planning to bring the system to other markets, including the UK.
