The Daily Mail is understood to have made redundancies within its Scottish sales team, with its Manchester team also thought to be affected.

The newspaper’s Scottish sales manager Tony Sondh has left the company, with four or five others also part of the consultation process within the sales team.

Insiders have told The Drum that the redundancies are a consequence of classified advertising coming under pressure as travel companies cut spend.

At the time of writing, The Daily Mail had yet to respond to The Drum’s enquiries as to the scale of the redundancies within the company, which are thought to only impact upon sales departments.

Last week, The Daily Mail and General Trust announced that revenue for the third quarter of its financial year was £495m, up 2% on the previous year, although its national advertising was ‘weaker’.

Meanwhile, The Guardian claims that DMGT is working with the publisher's owners Associated Newspapers in advising on the impact of the Bribery Act and data protection issues having initiated a review of its editorial controls in the light of the recent News of the World scandal.
