Paul McMahon, former managing director of Friends Provident’s corporate business has joined AEGON UK as group marketing director.

McMahon has been tasked with playing a key role in delivering the company’s strategy for growth, while also driving AEGON’s entry into the platform market. He will also be expected to prepare the company to capitalise on retail distribution, review and pension reform opportunities.

McMahon has also held the role of managing director of corporate benefits at AXA where he led a change programme to improve the company’s corporate proposition and extended the franchise into the adviser market.

The AEGON platform will be launched later this year with an initial focus on customers and advisers needs in the ‘at retirement market’, while a workplace savings platform is also set to launch early next year.

“I’m passionate about the financial services industry and what we can deliver, in partnership with financial advisers, to improve the future financial security of our customers. The industry is facing significant challenges at the moment around pension reform and the Retail Distribution Review. I’m excited about working for AEGON because these challenges have begun to be addressed and there’s a clear vision for the future. I’m looking forward to working with Adrian Grace and the leadership team to bring new energy, drive and purpose to our market proposition,” commented McMahon.

Adrian Grace, AEGON UK Chief Executive, said:“Paul is a recognised leader in the platform market and I am delighted he has chosen to join AEGON at this exciting time in our development.

“Delivering a market-leading platform, using leading edge technology and tailored to our core markets, alongside our existing product range will give us an innovative approach that sets us apart from our competitors.

“We now have the right balance of strategy, commercial focus and operational delivery within the executive team. This key appointment will enable us to move quickly to cement our position as one of the UK’s leading providers.”
