BBC journalists are to start working to rule on Tuesday 2 August, after they return from a strike planned for Monday 1.

According to an NUJ internal memo, “an indefinite work to rule will begin across the BBC from 00.01 on Tuesday August 2nd immediately following the 24 hour strike”.

The Guardian has reported a source in the corporation as saying that working to rule could be more effective at causing disruption because many staff on the BBC News Channel “act up” to cover more senior positions during busy news days.

It has been reported that three members of staff have been compulsorily redundant from the BBC Monitoring and the World Service, with one NUJ member made redundant since the strike on 15 July.

The second strike was originally planned for 29 July, but has been moved to next Monday.
