The organising committee for the London 2012 Olympics hare closing in on the £700m sponsorship target.

The Financial Times says that after a five-year funding and procurement programme, the target has almost been achieved, with 41 domestic sponsors in place, alongside two Paralympics only sponsors. This number includes 11 worldwide tier one partners.

Paul Deighton, chief executive of the London Organising Committee told the FT that they were only ‘single digital millions’ away from achieving the target, and that it would ‘close down’ the programme after it finalised a few more sponsorship agreements.

Meanwhile, the Drum understands that the 2014 Commonwealth Games revenue target is £100m in total, including ticket sales, sponsorship and merchandise sales.
