Figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) released today show ‘non-store’ retailing has had a 23.3% increase in sales value, and 24.4% increase in sales volume over the past year.

‘Non-store’ retailing is defined by the ONS as online, through mail order or other non-store outlets.

The Retail Sales Statistics Bulletin showed that for every pound spent in retail in Great Britain, 5p of this is spent on ‘non-store’ retailing.

ONS reports the surge in sales value and volume in this industry for the period June2010-2011 is the largest increase since the series began in 1988.
