The University of Bath is leading a bid to acquire £4 million in funding to help fund a hub building that would provide creatives and digital specialists in the city with a location in which to network, train and access services.

The news follows the announcement by the MoD that it will be moving 2,600 employees out of the city, leaving the local economy in turmoil.

According to This Is Bath, funding for the hub, which will be titled the Bath Digital City Project, is being bid for through the Government’s £2 billion Regional Growth Fund.

Bath University is spearheading the application, which is also being supported by Bath and North East Somerset Council, the West of England Local Enterprise Partnership, Creative Bath and Bath Spark.

"We are passionate about developing Bath as a centre of tech excellence and this seemed to fit in really well,” Bath Spark founder, Tom Lewis told This is Bath.

"We want to see a physical centre where people can go, and one of the things this does is brings everyone together with a common purpose."

It is hoped that the bid will help create 250 jobs in in advertising, design, film and video-making, photography, publishing and telecommunications.
