Revolution racked Tunisia is looking to put its Spring revolution behind it by launching a controversial summer tourism campaign.

Conscious that its global image is not all that it could be the North African country has commissioned a poster campaign for public transport users in Paris and London which make fun of people’s fears.

One ad shows asun kissed archaeological site captioned: “They say Tunisia is nothing but ruins.” Another shows a woman being massaged with the caption: “They say that in Tunisia some people receive heavy handed treatment.”

Tourism is vital to the country’s economy and officials are desperate to counter misplaced fears over security – despite a state of emergency remaining in force.

This summer season has been described as disastrous with many hotels forced to close as visitor numbers collapsed by half to 3.5m this year.
