Hedley McEwan Creative Communication, established be ex Robson Brown directors Duncan McEwan and Tom Hedley last year, has won a competitive pitch to create a series of ‘larger than life’ silver installations to commemorate the Metrocentre’s 25th anniversary.

Comprising a series of giganticised sculptures of shoppers past and present representing the shopping centre’s first quarter century of trade.

Hedley McEwan’s multimedia director Allan Cooke said: "We had to design everything from scratch, from sketches on paper, to full 3D rotational models on a Mac, to be able to brief the sculptors.

“We didn't want to create straight-forward replicas of real people, we wanted to give a sense of stature and drama. The characters are a cross between the Oscars Award and characters from the movie Avatar.”

The statues are being manufactured by Centre Design.
