The Imperial War Museum is looking to attract the blogging elite and their family followers to HMS Belfast this summer through a new social media campaign.

Fido PR has been brought on-board to coordinate the activity as the museum ship, which is moored on the Thames, opens its new interactive Operations Room and Gun Turret experiences.

The agency’s plans include creating digital content to engage online influencers, a social media led schools engagement programme and creating interactive content for bloggers.

Phil Reed, director at HMS Belfast, said he has been “impressed with Fido’s existing relationship with family bloggers,” and looks forward to “using the exciting stories of those who served on HMS Belfast to create our own buzz online”.

Fido PR director Sarah Brownless added: “One of the biggest challenges the HMS Belfast faces is communicating the excitement of what’s going on inside the ship beyond its imposing façade. Social media offers the perfect mechanism for bringing this to life. We wanted to use our in depth knowledge of family bloggers to create a campaign that would really give them something different and innovative and we’re looking forward to revealing more as the campaign unfolds.”
