A former investigations editor at the Mail on Sunday has become the latest individual to sue the News of the World for allegedly intercepting their voicemail messages.

The journalist is reported to have claimed that his voicemails and those of a dozen colleagues were illegally accessed and that this had given Glenn Mulcaire, a private investigator hired by the NoW, access to the mail on Sunday’s computer systems.

It adds to the concern that News International titles had been engaged in stealing stories from their rivals with a source close to Mulcaire claiming that the investigator was similarly targeting the Sun, Daily Mail, Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror and the People.

Such revelations may serve to break the print press’s consensus to restrict reporting on the incident as the titles turn on each other.
