Stephen Jardine has stepped down from presenting The Hour and will leave STV at the end of May.

After 10 years presenting a wide range of programmes for the channel, Jardine says he is “ready for a new challenge”.

He continued: “Hosting a daily show has been a great privilege and after nearly 500 editions of The Hour and 250 episodes of the Five Thirty Show, it’s time for change.”

Jardine joined STV to present the Millennium Hogmanay show and has since fronted a range of programmes for the channel from documentaries to news and current affairs programmes, including Scotland Today. He also played a key role in STV’s successful appeal to build a new maternity hospital in Malawi and won a Royal Television Society award for his work with the channel.

Latterly he has co-presented STV’s popular daily magazine show The Hour, which is the only live magazine show produced and presented out of London.

The Hour series producer Tom Cara said of Jardine’s departure: “Stephen has been a great asset to The Hour since the show launched two years ago and has been invaluable to its success as Scotland's most popular teatime programme. We're all extremely grateful for his hard work over the course of the series and wish him every success with his new venture.”

Jardine is set to move on to other broadcasting projects as well as launching Taste Communications, Scotland’s first specialist food and drink communications agency helping companies get their message across to consumers as well as campaigning on a range of food and drink issues.
