The decision by the Government as to whether News Corporation should be allowed to proceed with its proposed takeover of BSkyB could still be weeks away.

According to news agency Reuters, the approval of the takeover has been delayed following culture minister Jeremy Hunt’s intention that the approval process would be completed soon after a parliamentary recess ending on 26 April.

Sources have now claimed that details were still being finalised and would take several weeks to be sorted out.

News Corporation already owns 39% of BSkyB but is now pushing for a full takeover, and is set to offload Sky News in a bid to rid the Government and watchdog Ofcom of fears around ‘media plurality’ as it also owns newspapers such as The Sun, News of the World, The Times and The Sunday Times.
