Reader's Digest has relaunched with a revamped design and a raft of new celebrity columnists including digital champion Martha Lane Fox and investigative journalist Donal MacIntyre.

The new look comes into effect in the new May issue, whose cover is adorned by the popstar physicist professor Brian Cox.

As well as the "clean, contemporary and classy" redesign the monthly magazine claims it has invested £500,000 to dramatically improve its paper stock.

And after a "huge" study into its target audience, the magazine's editorial content has also been given a makeover by editor Gill Hudson.

The insight gleaned from the 45-60-year-olds surveyed has led Hudson to create a magazine "with a strong emphasis on infotainment for grown-ups".

Publishing director James Mallison said: "After our success in the most recent ABC report, which revealed that our circulation is back in growth after a long period of decline, the revamped magazine is the next step in our plans to reach 700,000 readers.

"Following the multi-million pound investment, appointment of a new senior management team and an extensive marketing drive and research project, the refreshed magazine is a natural evolution, rather than a revolution."
