Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) has launched a new TV campaign highlighting the dangers and impact of deliberately setting gorse fires in the countryside.

Created by Ardmore Advertising, the 30 second animated ad presses the message that if the Fire Service are up in the hills they can’t be down protecting the community.

Ardmore, which has worked on NIFRS campaigns for over 8 years, set up focus groups of young people from areas where there are regular gorse fires to record the views and thoughts, then used these over the animation.

Ardmore deputy managing director Stephen Roycroft said of the project: “The latest TV campaign for NIFRS aims to reduce the number of deliberate gorse fires throughout the Northern Ireland countryside. Fires of this nature put local people and firefighters in unnecessary danger as well as exerting an extra strain on NIFRS resources. The commercial directly targets the perpetrator through specific tailored key messages which were shaped through our in-depth research with local youth in Belfast.”
