National Union of Journalist (NUJ) members in the North of England are set to vote on industrial action in an effort to prevent jobs being cut by Newsquest at its offices in Darlington and York.

The company is set to move the production of its free weekly titles from both towns, alongside its weekly titles and magazines to Bradford, resulting in the loss of 14 jobs.

As a result, members of the NUJ across Darlington, Durham, Bishop Auckland, Northallerton and York will be involved in a ballot on 3 May to decide whether to invoke industrial action.

Industrial action by Newsquest members has already been invoked by Newsquest Herald & Evening Times in Glasgow, while London members are also set to vote this week as a result of disputes over pay, redundancies and editorial decisions taken by management, which has seen the journalists offer to work extra hours should the newspapers be extended to provide more editorial content.
