Fears are growing for 52-year-old BBC Radio Bristol presenter Peter Rowell, after he failed to turn up to present his afternoon show yesterday and has not been in contact with friends and family.

Mr Rowell, who is thought to be depressed following the death of his father, was last seen Tuesday morning when he left his home in Wickwar, South Gloucester, for work.

Police have found his car parked at a Morrison’s supermarket in nearby Yate, but have been unable to contact him.

"Our main concern is for Peter's welfare and we'll provide all the support we can for his family," said a BBC spokesman.

Mr Rowell is described as a white man with white or silver coloured hair. He is 5ft 10ins tall and of stocky build and is possibly wearing brown-coloured jeans and a white shirt.

Avon and Somerset police have asked Mr Rowell, or anyone who may have information, to contact them.

Rowell was formerly an anchor man for ITV West News and worked as a commercial radio DJ for Bristol-based GWR in the 1980’s.

He currently presents the afternoon show on BBC Radio Bristol and Somerset, featuring a mix of music and celebrity interviews.
