The Scottish Information Commissioner’s annual report website launched yesterday, complete with animated infographic.

The Scottish Information Commissioner became the first public sector organisation in Scotland to use a video infographic as part of an annual report, with the five minute presentation using statistics from the 2010 annual report to highlight the role of the commissioner’s office and the experience of Freedom of Information (FOI) users.

Inverness-based Dynam developed the graphical elements and storyline for the infographic, and worked with DP Digital Media to create the final animation.

The online video explains the facts of FOI through an everyman character called Ian, while statistical elements deal with types of applicants who made an appeal to the commissioner, expected case times, appeal outcomes, outreach work and the commissioner’s decisions.

The infographic is being used to drive people to the annual report website through an e-newsletter and hard copy summary postcards, delivered to key stakeholder across Scotland.
