Pumphrey's, which has been trading in Newcastle since 1750 as one of the UK's longest established coffee suppliers, has worked with Tyneside digital agency AYO Media to revamp its website.

The historic company aims to take its premium tea and coffee range to both the catering market and the general public worldwide via its new site.

Following the creation of www.pumphreys-coffee.co.uk by AYO Media, the beverage business has already seen a growth in sales.

This has followed a 25% increase in visitors to the website and returning customers up to 43%, which has been helped by the inclusion of a launch 'welcome' voucher code that gives visitors 10% off their order.

Stuart-Lee Archer, marketing director at Pumphrey's, said: "As the coffee industry has evolved over the past few years, the internet has become a major trading platform that allows businesses such as Pumphrey's to expand into national and international markets.

"Our new website will help us to integrate with our customers, making it faster and easier for them to buy products from us and quickly re-order new stock. This also gives us a great starting point to drive our online sales."

The collaborative North-East web project saw Gateshead-based search engine optimisation firm MediaWorks drive the firm's rankings.

Features on the site include a reorder button that eliminates the hassle of repeat purchases for regular clients who can now login to their account and request their usual supplies with one click. It also has an intuitive filtering system that allows shoppers to create their own selection criteria to find the exact product they require.
