David Johnson, the former general manager of Channel M, has joined animation production company Carbon Digital as senior business development manager.

Johnson was at the Manchester television station for five years and during its boom time he was responsible for a production team of 78 staff and another 40 freelancers.

But in 2010 the station was reduced to a skeleton staff and schedule by its owner GMG and Johnson left that summer.

Before joining Channel M Johnson owned his own TV production agency, Johnson Media, which produced education and coaching programmes for sporting organisations including MUTV.

Johnson said: "I'm delighted to be working with the professional broadcasters and animators at Carbon Digital Ltd and I'm looking forward to developing their business strategy regionally, nationally and internationally.

"The international market is already showing a keen interest in the CGI and animation on offer at Carbon Digital and I'm sure my many international contacts can only add to the interest."
