A new website for The British Postal Museum and Archive (BPMA) is to be developed by Mind Unit, ahead of the opening of a major public venue for its collection.

The organisation, which plays home to the public records of The Royal Mail Archive, and postal artefacts of the former National Postal Museum, is to move to a new £17m museum building in Swindon in 2014.

Mind Unit has been handed the task of developing a ‘highly visual’ digital presence that will develop the organisation’s profile ahead of the opening and become a showcase for the BPMA’s collection, while driving footfall to the venue.

A digital catalogue of the collection of postal items will feature on the sit, as well as an online shop and video and audio streaming of events and activities.

Ian Budden, principal at Mind Unit, commented: “The British postal service has a hugely rich history and the BPMA’s collection has a massive potential audience of those interested in British social history and the postal service.

“The site we are developing will bring this amazing collection to life online and maximise the BPMA’s potential digital audience and community network in the run up to the new museum’s opening and beyond," continued Budden
