Sally Sykes, communications director at the Health and Safety Executive, is to become president of the CIPR for 2012.

Having beaten off Rob Brown, managing director of Staniforth for the role, with 56% of member votes, Sykes will take up her position on 1 January next year, alongside incoming President, Paul Mylrea.

“I am delighted and honoured to take on the presidency during 2012 which promises to be a special year for the UK. I am looking forward to working with the team at the CIPR, our sectoral and regional groups, the Board and Council to provide value and support to our members and leadership of this vibrant profession,” commented Sykes.

Paul Mylrea added:"It is a sign of the CIPR's importance that we had two such strong candidates for President. Sally has worked tirelessly as Treasurer (during a difficult year) and I look forward to our working closely together as we continue to support our members. I would also like to pay tribute to Rob, who has been a key part of our social media work and I know he will continue to support us in that vital area."

Also announced are the results of the CIPR’s Coucil with seven elected seats being filled by Jane Cumming, Sarah Hall, Stephen Waddington, Liam Fitzpatrick, Natasha Tobin, Pamela Mounter and Stuart Ross, who polled the majority of the 5,469 votes made.

As previously announced, Jenifer Stirton, director of communications for NHS Lothian, will take up the role of Treasurer in 2011 following an uncontested election.
