Apple remains the most influential brand in the UK but British businesses John Lewis and Innocent are on its tail according to the annual Thought Leadership Group survey.

The iPhone firm came out top for the second year running with search giant Google again taking second place. According to the survey they are also the top two most influential brands among the US business community.

John Lewis is third in the UK - its first appearance in the list since 2007 - thanks to the "authenticity" and "clarity" of its brand proposition.

Smoothies brand Innocent is a new arrival in the list at number seven, helping to bump big brand mainstay Marks & Spencer out of the top 10.

The UK survey is based on the opinions of more than 1,000 'opinion leaders' from four groups: City and business leaders, politics and NGOs, media and communications, and the public sector.

The research was carried out by Populus and YouGov for TLG Communications.
