Manchester digital agency Great Fridays has created a 'squad selector' tool for ITV.com which encourages fans to debate their football team's best starting line-up.

The squad selector is an extension to ITV's televised football coverage and allows fans to share their favoured starting XI with friends before, during and after matches.

Players can also test their football knowledge by completing classic squad line-ups against the clock.

ITV.com head Stuart Roberts said: “The new squad selector is part of us creating a bigger window to shout about our football coverage online and will create new opportunities for sponsors and advertisers.”

The squad selector will be available for ITV's coverage of England, Champions League, FA Cup and Europa League matches. The broadcaster holds rights to more than 50 games this season.

Great Fridays co-founder Rob Noble, said: "The new squad selector will be used to create more noise and bigger windows of interactivity around ITV’s football coverage.

“For players, we have produced a slick Flash user interface and a simple game engine which will be a lot of fun to play and share with friends.

"Every football fan likes to play ‘guess the team’ before the manager does and debate it on Facebook and Twitter. We think it’s going to be the best out there in terms of usability and design.”
