The online and offline branding for the Mareel Shetland Arts Development Agency’s new music, cinema and creative industries centre is to be designed by Make Happy.

The London-based creative agency has been set the task of creating a comprehensive brand identity for the £12.2m venue which opens next Spring, with the identity being used on the external and internal structure of the building.

It will also run across all promotional and digital activity, including social media, mobile and online content.

Gwilym Gibbons, director of Shetland Arts Development Agency, explained: “We asked Make Happy to create an identity for Mareel that reflected the ambition of both Shetland and the venue itself. We wanted to challenge the idea that this stunning and creative location is out of bounds, while reinforcing Shetland’s strong identity and reputation as a genuinely inspiring location.”

Jonathan Bannister, managing director of Make Happy, added: “We wanted to develop a distinctive identity for Mareel that reflected the uniquely aesthetic design of Mareel situated on the edge of the ocean. Shetland’s rich heritage in arts and culture. is reflected in the brand essence we’ve devised and positions Mareel as a sophisticated and creative venue on the global stage. We’re delighted to be working with Shetland Arts and use our expertise to develop a strong brand identity for this innovative new venue.”
